Reflection 5

What have been your biggest takeaways from this semester, and from CODES as a whole?

CODES 320 being my last 3 credit course within CODES means a lot to me. It feels surreal that all my research has come to an end. I have learned a variety of things from this experience with both the research and interacting with my cohort. My biggest take away from this spring semester was for me to worry about myself within a group and not stress myself by  thinking about others and the things they lack. I also was able to reflect on the way I solve issues within a group. I reached my point of patience this semester which is something I did not appreciate. I had to communicate in a way to my team I did not want to, due to the lack of commitment to our research this semester. This semester I do appreciate the support from my professor. I did not know what to expect coming into this class. However, things turned out better than I expected and provided grace. I went through medical issues this semester, which was something new I had to overcome.

From CODES as a whole , I have a variety of takeaways. This was a new journey for me. I have not done this kind of research prior to this scholarship. I am very grateful for all the things I have got to experience through this opportunity. I was able to give important presentations to important people like the Chancellor, the Illinois House of Representatives, and more. I learned important ethical factors about research by creating surveys and I was able to learn more about my peers doing this research. I am grateful for the bonds of Dr.Despain, Dr.Martinez, and Zuleyri. CODES also gave me the connection to learn more about wicked problems in our world , I once was not in tune into. This was an investment for me that I plan to continue as I grow into adulthood. I was one of many people that applied for CODES. I would like to show people that this all was not for no reason and I am genuine about my work , unlike others. From CODES , I was able to create an entire project from start to finish. Reflecting on everything , I presented that I can do whatever I put my mind to, especially for a good cause.
