First-Week Introduction

I have decided to chose goals for this semester that will help me towards bringing together and pushing forward my work from my implementation semester. I wanted to pick goals that will allow my research to be effective in different areas, such as communication, obtaining and sharing specific types of knowledge towards issues and more. One assignment that makes me most excited for the semester is the final presentation. I am looking forward the most for the final presentation because I will be able to see how far I have came with my research and doing an action about it. I feel as if for this semester the dissemination plan and execution might seem the most challenging. I think it might be challenging due to it being in the process of making decisions and hoping I make the correct ones to help myself actually make a difference. Strategies I want to set for myself to help make this semester a success is moving and doing with a purpose.

Midterm Introduction

During the first half of the semester, I was able to get back into the vibe of working with my classmates as a group again. Skills I was able to practice was being organized on documents to keep my team on the same page and communicating deadlines. I most enjoyed getting to meet and interact with Professor H. During midterms I was going through medical issues, and she provided me with grace. I struggled with getting my team to all turn things in at the same time. Goals I think I have excelled at so far are 13) Written Communication and 12C- Collaboration. Goals that I want to continue developing during the second half of the semester are 7B- Skills for Lifelong Learning, Oral Communication-8c, and 4A- Global Learning. I will make these goals a priority in the second half by presenting these into my assignments, the prep for the assignments, and while collaborating with my research team.

Final Introduction

Now that the semester is over, I am surprised on the way it went. I had a lot of obstacles to overcome this semester. My goals did help me to finish out my implementation plan of conservation tabling. I tried my best to reach my goals through my assignments. Something I learned that surprised me is about the Emplace website. I did not think about a website like Emplace being created but I do think it was a good idea for our research. Focusing on my goals for CODES 320, something I want to take away to future courses is all the feedback we got towards our Emplace contributions that really helped us improve it such as thinking about different audiences, blog templates, spelling out acronyms’, and more. Strategies I can use to continue developing toward these goals are better communication, working on the way I write to a specific audience, and expanding my knowledge on solutions to wicked problems.

My artifacts allowed me to reach my goal of 7B- Skills for Lifelong Learning-Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom in a variety of ways. My emplace contributions and presentation slide allowed me to be able to think about the audience beyond the classroom while writing. This help shaped how I wrote and obtained knowledge. My tabling event allowed me to pursue more knowledge about Heartlands to share while communicating with young adults. Me being able to share conservation information with young adults also created an educational experience beyond the classroom.

With my tabling event, I was able to create an effective script to say to individuals that was interested in what I had going on. With my presentation, I practiced and thoughtfully created everything I wanted to include within my slide and note cards to make sure what I would be talking about would be effective. With the meeting with my community partner, Anna, I was able to work on my oral communication when it comes to relying important information and updates. With my last artifact, I was able to send my team a voice message on my part of my presentation to help them with their part. My artifacts allowed me to reach my goal of 13) Written Communication-c. Uses language to skillfully communicate with clarity and fluency in a variety of ways. With my emplace contribution update reflection and bio assignment, I was able to improve my contribution due to the feedback I received. This allowed my writing to become better for my audience and for me to work on my writing. With my presentation for my slide, I was able to think about my audience and the way I wrote to make sure it would be effective and informational. With my reflections, I wrote with clarity to help Dr.H understand my point of view on assignments and my semester.

Bio – Google Docs

My artifacts allowed me to reach my goal of 4A- Global Learning. With all of these assignments I had to consider the way I wrote, gathered, and presented my information because I was writing to and for multiple kinds of people. To make sure my assignments and presentation was effective I had to adapt and applies a deep understanding of multiple worldviews, experiences, and power structures while initiating meaningful interaction with other cultures to address significant global problems.

Goal 5 (20%)
12C- Collaboration– Works independently toward goals by contributing and meeting deadlines.

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
-Complete assigned tasks independently and on time
– Communicate clearly with group members about responsibilities
-Contribute ideas and feedback during group work
-Event Implementation
– Final Presentation
– Communication with team
-Emplace
-Consistent completion
-Professional communication

My artifacts allowed me to reach my goal of 12C- Collaboration– Works independently toward goals by contributing and meeting deadlines in a variety of ways. I worked to communicate with my team as I did my assignments to help them be able to get theirs in as well. This would not be possible if I did not work on things on my own end. I worked to update my emplace contribution on time, so our audience would not be waiting, and it would not look the same as it did before my team and I received feedback. With the presentation I showed up to present my final project, while others in my team did not. Lastly, I communicated with Anna alone on a meeting call for my team to continue the updates of our research.
