Author Bio

My name is Jasmine L. Davis. I am a Junior at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration of Media Production and a minor of Applied Communications Studies. My next steps after earning my bachelor’s degree will be to obtain my masters as well and land a job at ESPN. I am a part of the 2028 cohort of Community-Oriented Digital Engagement Scholars (CODES) program at SIUE. We are a research team that focuses on addressing a wicked problem within the local community at Heartlands Conservation. A wicked problem is an issue within the world that does not have a simple solution or fix. The wicked problem my team and I have to address for our research is Conservation. The age of the audience we are trying to connect with is young adults, ages 18-25. Over the years of working on research towards conservation , I have learned a lot. Two important barriers I have learned from this research are motivation and access to knowledge. These have a lot to do with how young adults interact with conservation. Throughout my years of undergraduate studies with CODES, I have learned to make surveys , interview, and create events from data. For the future, I will continue to try to use my skills of event planning to push forward to reach young adults. I also plan to spread knowledge on the topic of wicked problems and try to help the world the best way I can.
