First-Week Introduction
Starting this CODES 123 class, I was nervous. I didn’t know what to expect from the class, curriculum, and teacher. I chose these five goals to change my actions in a more positive way. I do not want to always take the easy route. I would like to expand my skills and learn new things in different ways. One thing I am excited about this semester is class discussions, learning how to use Qualtrics, and creating a deeper relationship with my group. I think getting people to take our surveys and trying to interpret the data will be the most challenging. Some strategies I want to set for myself to make the semester a success is calling on my peers for help and asking Dr.B questions until I understand instead of shutting down.
Midterm Introduction
Some content and skills I have learned during the first half of this semester are searching for different vocab while trying to research articles, how to use Qualtrics, and it’s okay to communicate times of hardships in life to faculty. A few things I have enjoyed the most so far in class are getting to know Dr.B, our classes with presentations from guests, and class discussions. Something I have struggled with this far is procrastination. I feel like I still need to work on everything within myself to become a better student and person in the classroom.
Final Introduction
I can’t believe this is the last week of my freshman year research CODES class. I enjoyed getting to know my cohort and the faculty. I would not be as far as I am now without them. Throughout the semester, I think I did a good job reaching my goals. I can say I believe I was a better colleague and student, taking on a bigger role this semester. Some things I learned that surprised me were creating a survey, facts about ethics and learning new research methods. A few things I am going to take with me to future courses are the skill to create surveys, transcribing interviews to code themes, and analyzing. Strategies I can use to continue developing towards my goals are pushing my hardest to try to be a great team member.

Goal 2 (20%)-3) Ethical Reasoning

I have to realize and try to understand complex problems have different contributions to them in different ways and how the contributions interact with each other.

Throughout this assignment, I applied the reading to different ethical reasonings inside of groups. I expressed how several aspects of groups and ethics not being followed resulted in disaster. I was able to look at things from a deeper perspective.
To create the survey I had to learn about the ethical things related. This allowed me to learn things from a researchers perspective

When working on this project I had to think of ethical ways I wanted to share the victims stories and how to ethically cite the sources.

I created and shared the Qualtrics survey with my team members. I took upon the responsibility to type everything and make sure everyone was able to access it promptly. My teammates did not have to ask me to do these tasks. I took the initiative within this assignment, showing leadership as well.

This project allowed me to work on my goal of collaboration. My team and I use communication and effort to plan this assignment together successfully.

Before taking CODES 123, I genuinely thought I could conduct research on my own in any way I wanted to. I thought this because I am trying to find new knowledge. However, through learning about the IRB and earning my certificate, I have learned the correct way to go about research. I am happy to be doing research the ethical way instead of my incorrect way.

This assignment allowed me to work on lifelong learning skills because I was able to learn new things about the hashtag #sayhername. I was able to practice analyzing within this assignment which will help me in future courses.
With this assignment, I learned how to create a survey. This is important skills I can use when encountering other community issues in the future.

Within this assignment, I applied new things I learned from the reading. I gained a new perspective and reasoning behind social groups due to applied myself to the reading and assignment. During the class discussion with Dr.B on week 7 , I was able to give her my opinion on the reading and participate within the dialogue due to this assignment.
For my reading assignments Top 5 and Article Annotations I was allowed to work on my goal of reading. I stated relevant and engaging information within my assignments to show my comprehension of the articles I read.
