First-Week Introduction

This year, my goals for the CODES 221 research class aligns with personal growth. I would like the procces of the projects in this class to be more smooth this year. The assignment I am excited for the most this year is the Product Project. I am interested to see how well an event for my research would go. Something I think that might be challenging this year is positive teamwork. I want to set certain boundaries, goals, structures, and schedules this year for my group to run efficiently.

[Complete the goal-setting portions of your class portfolio by choosing your goals, going over the syllabus in detail, and explaining what assignments you may use to demonstrate how you have been developing in those areas and what will best demonstrate your progress. Then, write a brief introduction here where you explain why you chose your five goals. What assignment makes you most excited for the semester? Which one seems like it will be the most challenging? What strategies do you want to set for yourself to make the semester a success?

Midterm Introduction

The first half of this semester in CODES 221 has been well. I haven’t had any issues this year besides getting low replies to my survey for my part in the implementation plan. Throughout my research this semester so far, I have gained different insights on why young adults are not consistently involved in water conservation. I enjoy getting to know more about my generation. I feel at this point in the semester I have been able to achieve 4 out of 5 goals. However, I do believe I am not reaching my goals as frequently as I should be. For the rest of the semester, I plan to keep in mind my goals I chose and push harder to achieve them more frequently.

[Speak about the skills and content you’ve learned during the first half of the semester. What did you most enjoy? What did you struggle with? What goals do you think you’ve most excelled at meeting and what do you want to continue developing during the second half of the semester? What goals haven’t you yet met, and how will you make them a priority in the second half of class?]

Final Introduction

[Now that the semester is over, use your introduction to reflect in-depth on your process. How well did you meet the goals you set out to meet? What did you learn that surprised you? Focusing on your goals for this class, what do you want to remember to take with you into your future courses? What strategies can you use to continue developing toward these goals?]

Course Goals

Choose five goals from the CODES Student Learning Outcomes that you’d like to work toward. Choose goals that are relevant to the scope of this course, select artifacts/examples based on activities assigned for this course, and explain characteristics in a way that illustrates how your artifacts/examples demonstrate your progress toward the goal.

Goal 1 (20%)

2A-. Systematically analyzes assumptions to develop logical plans to solve problems.

Based on (INSERT NUMBER AND LETTER OF GOAL from CODES Student Learning Outcomes): Write out Goal in your own words

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
-Analyzing the situation, identify the key assumptions and evaluate
-Take extra steps on assignments
-Brainstrom
-Read Critically
-Reflections
-Notes

-Implementation Plan
-Data Collection and Content Assignments
-Attend and actively participate in at least 90% of class sessions
-Complete weekly reflections on time and answer questions fully
-Prepared for 90% of class sessions.
-Participate in discussions
-Take notes
  • For the beginning of my reflection, I had to analyzes assumptions to develop logical plans to put together my plan for my research this semester. I thought about additional factors that would affect or help my research.

– Explanation

– I had the assumption that the young adults would not answer. I made the plan to send out the survey multiple times to make sure it reaches the amount of people that I need to make sure I get the responses to help me continue to try to consistently involve young adults.

[For each 5% of effort you assign to your goal, provide at at least one example or artifact that demonstrates your learning process and shows how your made progress toward meeting that goal this semester (You would need four examples if the goal was worth 20% of your grade). Show how you have improved over time, what methods you took to grow, and talk about what you still plan to do in the future. ]

Goal 2 (20%)

7A- a. Explores a topic in depth, yielding a rich awareness and/or little-known information indicating intense interest in the subject.

-Take detailed Notes
-Organize my information
-Troubleshoot and problem-solve
-Implementation Plan
-Final Presentation
-Notes
-Reflections
-Survey
-Turn in assignments on time
-Participate in discussions
-Look at previous work

–When coming up with the questions for my survey, I did my research on what questions did we already ask last year. I had to analyze and think about what questions would be more beneficial to my research of getting young adults involved. By doing this, I was able to get back some valuable information.

-For this goal, I took the time out to know about the collaboration between our community partner Heartlands and our school to contribute to my implementation plan. I did the reaching out and research about the event to help my own research to deploy a survey to the young adults.

Goal 3 (20%)

5A- Defines the scope of research questions effectively and selects information cogently to address them.

-Group Brainstorms
-Structured information gathering
-Peer review
-Regular reflections
-Reflections
-Information from group discussions
-Implementation Plan
-Survey

-Turning in assignments on time
-Cited articles
-Participating in discussions
  • With reflection one, I was able to reflect on the questions that needed to be made for my research this is year to continue and get more insights from young adults that would help my overall research question.
  • – Further deep in my reflection, I took time out to bullet point what questions I still had towards my own research to help me towards my survey and data I wanted to gather.
  • [For each 5% of effort you assign to your goal, provide at at least one example or artifact that demonstrates your learning process and shows how your made progress toward meeting that goal this semester (You would need four examples if the goal was worth 20% of your grade). Goal 4 (20-%)

6B-. Demonstrates sophisticated understanding of the complexity of elements important to members of another culture in relation to history, values, politics, communication styles, economy, or beliefs and practices.

-Put together different questions
-Talk to different students
-Reflections
-Research from Implementation Plan
-Survey
-Following/going over the word count for reflections
-Turning assignments in on time
-Interaction with my stakeholder/audience
  • In this section of my reflection, I thought about my team members and everything we have been through leading up to this point now. I thought about how all our individual projects affect us as a team.

For each 5% of effort you assign to your goal, provide at at least one example or artifact that demonstrates your learning process and shows how your made progress toward meeting that goal this semester (You would need four examples if the goal was worth 20% of your grade). Show how you have improved over time, what methods you took to grow, and talk about what you still plan to do in the future. ]

Goal 5 (20%)

9B- . Identifies and evaluate multiple approaches for solving problems.

-Reflections
-Implementation Plan

-Data Collection
-Content Assignments
– Self Reflection
– Being open-minded
-Trying new methods of research
  • I do not have a visual artifact for this because we are not to this point in the semester. To finish my implementation plan, I plan to create an event on top of the research from my survey. I know that just doing surveys is not enough to help solve my research question. I plan to try another approach of combining all the research from my team to help with this event.

– For this evidence, I will eventually be sending out the survey again once permission is granted. I knew getting young adults to respond would take more than one approach/try.
