Introduction

The initial half of the semester proved to be a transformative period for me, facilitating both personal and professional growth as I endeavored to enhance a range of skills, notably Oral Communication, Collaboration, and Information Literacy. Recognizing the broad applicability of these proficiencies, not only within the context of CODES but also in the pursuit of my academic aspirations and broader interests, I prioritized their development. Our recent visit to the Missouri Botanical Gardens provided an enriching experience. Engaging in interviews and presenting our surveys to community partners was not only fulfilling but also instrumental in advancing my objectives. I eagerly anticipate building upon this progress in the ensuing months.

Goal 1: Information Literacy (25%)

A: Defines the scope of research questions effectively and selects information cogently to address them.

***The artifacts above showcase some images I used for my final lab project. Initially, diving into this lab was tough as I sifted through multiple datasets, trying to make sense of them. But as I broke down the questions, I managed to match the data statistics to specific aspects and tackle them effectively. This assignment pushed me to explore new territories, allowing me to dive into datasets and not just understand them, but also see how they could help unravel the complexities surrounding MOBOT.***

Goal 2: Skills for Life Long Learning (25%)

A: Uses clear organizational patterns and is skillful at presenting content cohesively

***The artifacts above showcases two reflections that I’ve completed. This assignment has been instrumental in refining my ability to present content cohesively. It has enabled me to gather information effectively and articulate my viewpoints clearly.***

Goal 3: Oral Communication Skills (15%)

A: Uses clear organizational patterns and is skillful at presenting content cohesively.

***The artifacts above consist of questions I posed to my roommate and classmates as part of our Interview project. I selected this artifact because during the interviews, I focused on asking these questions, which demonstrates my development of oral presentation skills. If I were to refine my interview approach, I would consider speaking more slowly and adopting a friendly tone rather than a strictly professional one.***

Goal 4: Problem – Solving Skills (10%)

A: Construct insightful problem statements with evidence of relevant factors.

***In my spatial analysis reflection, I had the opportunity to demonstrate my problem-solving abilities. I noticed a significant issue concerning accessibility to convenient locations around SIUE. While places like Walmart and fast-food restaurants are just a short drive away, the challenge arises for individuals without access to cars, including myself. Although we have a bus system operating every 10 minutes, navigating it isn’t straightforward, leading to potential confusion and incorrect stops due to unclear instructions. Recognizing this problem, I proposed enhancements to the bus system to ensure accessibility for everyone.***

Goal 5: Collaboration (25%)

C: Works independently toward goals by contributing and meeting deadlines.

***For the spring digital showcase, my cohort and I were tasked with creating a video. My contribution included crafting my part of the script, recording a voiceover, and making several edits to the video. While I aimed for collaboration, I primarily worked independently toward our shared objective. This artifact represents a synthesis of individual elements into a cohesive whole. Overall, I found this project enjoyable, but in hindsight, I recognize the value of better communication within the group.***
