Introduction

So far throughout this semester, I have become more outgoing and I have deeply enjoyed my African American Literature class. I have learned more in that class than I would have ever guessed. I am so very grateful for the closeness of our cohort and I’m grateful for the friends I have been able to meet so far this year. At the start of this semester, I had contracted for different learning outcomes. I had contracted for 5b, 7a, 8a, 12b, and 12c. Now in week 11, I am coming to realize that these some of these do not allign with the work in codes 120, so in order to better prepare myself I have chosen 4a, 5b, 7a, 11c, and 13c. In codes 120, I must be completely honest, it has been more difficult to get work done for this class than any other. Since this class only meets once a week, these assignments normally are pushed to the back of my mind. I need to really work on my procrastination and time management just so I don’t fall behind on my assignments for this class.

As my first semester of research team comes to an end I am proud of myself for the progress that I have made thus far. I am so glad that I changed my learning outcomes for this course because I am afraid I wouldn’t have succeeded in the way that I did in this research team. After this semester, I won’t be able to take FAME anymore which makes me upset, but that just shows that I am moving forward and beginning to take classes for my major which is so exciting ! The Digital Showcase for research teams was a huge success and all staff/administrators thouroughly enjoyed all presentations. Our collaboration with MOBOT is just beginning and I can already see how bright the future is in the collaboration.

Goal 1 (15%)

4a.) Adapts and applies a deep understanding of multiple worldviews, experiences, and power structures while initiating meaningful interaction with other cultures to address significant global problems.

While working with MOBOT, it has truly opened my mind with so many questions pertaining to being respectful to all cultures, and in that striving to get a more unbiased binomial nomenclature. During discussions/free time, I have written questions concerning Indigenous communities and I have also found staff in the school who are professors in either history pertaining to indigenous communities or communities that have been oppressed to be able to reach out to these people for any further that arise for the future.

Goal 2 (20%)

5b.) Accesses information using effective, well-designed search strategies and appropriate sources.

These sources were the ones I have cited from my SA#4. Based on my beginner SA’s, I have appeared to improve which is a good sign. For the future, I need to include bibliography because that seems to be the one consistent thing I keep forgetting to include in my SA’s.

Goal 3 (30%)

7a.) Explores a topic in depth, yielding a rich awareness and/ or little-known information indicating intense interest in the subject.

These notes were taken when reading/ analyzing chapter 3 of A Sustainable World. While I was reading, I annotated important parts that I noticed, and also googled definitions of words I didn’t understand. I found it very helpful when I looked up the words I didn’t understand. I had made a chart that was shown in the book. I am a visual learner in the aspect of seeing words being used compared to just seeing them on a page helps me learn better which is why I love to write my notes out on paper. For next time, I will make more graphs/charts when I come upon information hard to explain in words in order to show progress with my comprehension of the text.

Goal 4 (20%)

11c.) Reads using an appropriate lens and can engage in a continuing dialogue within and beyond a discipline or a community of readers.

Throughout the semester, we have written a total of 5 source analyses. When I started writing these, I didn’t really know exactly what I was supposed to be doing as can be shown by my feedback on the first SA. Compared to my third SA, which shows some progress in certain areas, but still need some fixing on my formatting. My most recent SA however has shown extreme improvement. For future SA’s, I will work on making sure my work is presented in a neat and orderly fashion in order to have proficient in all categories.

Goal 5 (15%)

13c.) Uses language to skillfully communicate with clarity and fluency.

Between these two essays written for this course, I have written two pieces of work that flow and have a good use of vocabulary which shows my progress between my first and second MC’s. For future writings for any classes, I need to continue to expand my vocabulary to help with aiming towards my audience as my audience is bound to change for the future.

Our DH showcase presentation shows how language can portray such a punch on the audience that’s being delivered to. Each member in our presentation group had different goals. Mine being defining the wicked problem with the inclusion of Indigenous knowledge within the Missouri Botanical Gardens. My slide was one on the darker side, compared to Troy who was our closer. In Troy’s slide he used more enthusiatic words to look to the future.
