Class Portfolio

Dear Dr. Smith,

For the spring 2024 semester, here are ways I believe I have demonstrated how I have achieved an A in our research and systems thinking class. I have some skills that I am already proficient at, and also some skills that I am not as confident with and would like to improve on.

5A: Defines the scope of research questions effectively and selects information cogently to address them.

This section will be worth 15% of my grade for the semester.

In my words, this learning outcome means that I know how to approach and deeply understand questions and resources. I have demonstrated this skill in my reflections and labs. I will address information properly in order to complete my assignments. I am okay at this skill, but I would like to improve.

I have demonstrated this skill within my reflections. I have been able to explain my thinking and help myself grow in reading comprehension.

11A: Evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts or issues

This section will be worth 20% of my grade for the semester.

In my words, this learning outcome means that I will be able to have a deep understanding of readings, and will be able to apply them within our class. I will demonstrate this skill within my reflections and also when annotating articles. I will show a deep understanding of texts in order to complete this skill. I am okay at this skill, but I would like to improve, especially on my annotations. I typically don’t do annotations well, so I would like to improve on this.

Here are examples of some annotations. Additionally, I have demonstrated this throughout my reflections so far.

12C: Works independently towards goals by contributing and meeting deadlines.

This section will be worth 25% of my grade for the semester.

In my words, this learning outcome means that I have worked by myself in order to complete my work on time. I have demonstrated this by always turning my assignments in on time (unless there are unforeseen circumstances). I will strive to do my best work. I will continue to make sure I turn in my reflections, ePortfolios, and labs on or before the due dates. I tend to be very good at this skill and it is something I would like to keep strengthening. This will force me to not procrastinate on my homework.

Here is just one example of turning in my work on time. (My interview reflection). However, I have turned all of my assignments in on time this semester.

13A: Demonstrates a thorough understanding of context, audience, and purpose.

This section will be worth 20% of my grade for the semester.

In my words, this learning outcome means that I can understand conditions, audience and motivation of readings. I will demonstrate this skill through showing my understanding of these points. I will do this within my readings and labs. I would like to improve this skill in order to further my knowledge within CODES. I believe that professors give us readings and information for a reason, so I would like to fully comprehend our readings.

I understood my audience when conducting my interview. I was careful about the details of my words in order to communicate the context and purpose clearly.

13C: Uses language to skillfully communicate with clarity and fluency.

This section will be worth 20% of my grade for the semester.

In my words, this learning outcome means that my language will be clear and will flow smoothly will demonstrate this skill within my reflections’s and labs. I am okay at this skill, but there is a lot of room for improvement. I would like to improve my grammar and language skills.

I have demonstrated this throughout my reflections. I believe I am trying to become a better writer and sound more fluent.

Thanks, Kasey Tipton
