HEYYYYY!!!! My name is Kyra Williams, and it is currently my second semester here at SIUE. I have learned so much in the time I have been here such as learning new things and perfecting some things I already knew. I struggled in the beginning of my semester with not knowing how to study for my classes and not knowing how to format my papers. I think I’ve come a long way but still have a lot to go. I have mostly enjoyed the friendships this school has gotten me and more specifically the friends the CODES program has introduced me to.
~Goals~
(3c.)- Applies ethical concepts to a question and considers their full implications. (20%)
I have chosen this goal to apply ethical concepts to a question and considers their full implications. I think this goal will be helpful in perspective to my personal overarching goal which is to better understand how the community fits into the Missouri Botanical Gardens and how it effects the Gardens themself. I want to show this in the survey questions we start out with and the actual analytics of the surveys themself after we send them out to the community around the Gardens. As of right now we have not gotten our surveys back with results, but I would like to show this goal through those results we get back.
Our surveys never ended up getting the recognition we were wanting to get, we only ended up getting one response back so the data didn’t really work for our group. With that being said we didn’t stop there, and we ended up doing a focus group with a few of the garden volunteers and staff committees. And got back some very good and helpful responses. Here are the questions we asked below.
(5b.) Accesses information using effective, well-designed search strategies and appropriate sources. (20%)
Goal still in progress…
Through this whole semester we have worked on different data sets and ways of reading and cleaning data. In the earlier days of this semester, we worked on looking at different research methods and archival methods. Through this I am showing different tools that I used to do this. A good resource we used was Login (zotero.org). To plus in different types of information at once.
(9b.) Constructs insightful problem statements with evidence of relevant factors. (20%)
The goal of constructing problem solving is something I would like to continue to work on as I get more assignments and have time as the semester goes on. With being a student athlete, I think it was easier to think of questions that I would feel comfortable answering. So, this is the data that we collected from our survey and how we used that data to create our interview questions.
(10a.) Skillfully represents quantitative information. (20%)
Goal still in progress…
(12c.) Works independently toward goals by contributing and meeting deadlines. (20%)
Show this goal I used our “pre” survey. So, what we used to create think of some research questions and some tactics to use for our survey. We created a shared word doc and a group chat on Snapchat to keep each other accountable for the work that needed to be done, and also some rough draft sampling questions. We ended up finishing the project early and it turned out better than what we expected it to.
