Dear Dr. Hildebrandt,
In order to achieve an A in this course here are the goals I’ve set for myself and how I’ll show my progress towards them.
2a. Systematically analyzes assumptions to develop logical plans to solve problems. (20%)
With this goal I have in mind to have good thought-out plans on how to solve our problems that we have addressed in our class periods. I plan on showing this goal by organizing my source analysis and the labs we are conducting in class/ on our own.
5a: Defines the scope of research questions effectively and selects information cogently to address them. (20%)
As the whole goal of our research team is to research. I wanted to get better at researching, freshly coming out of high school I did not really get many chances to do this in any of my classes in high school. So, this is very new to me but with the help of my fellow classmates and my amazing professor Dr. Hildebrandt, I have learned a lot. So, I will also show this when conducting our surveys and interviews for the garden.
7c. Reviews prior learning inside and outside of the classroom to reveal significantly changed perspectives about educational and life experiences. (20%)
I chose this specific goal because I think it is important to be engaged in and out of the classroom, however that may look different for different people. For me that means on my own time contributing everything I have to my subgroup and contributing research.
8: oral Communication (20%)
I want to show this goal of mine through when we do our “Discussion Leading” and when we do our interviews throughout the garden. With the oral communication I am hoping to continue to get better with my presenting my ideas, slides and leading discussions with my research team, as well as Ideas with the Missouri Botanica garden and with the herbarium. Though I have not been able to truly get to work on this a whole lot I am hoping to get better as we get deeper into our wicked problem of the herbarium.
13: written communication 20%
I want to work on my writing and understanding the reading we read during class. In order to show this work, I will make rough drafts for my source analysis’. I want to show this goal through many ways, and one is the surveys that me and my subgroup are going to create. Through analyzing the results, we get back from the surveys we are conducting. I will also show this in my portfolio with taking what we are collecting on our own, through the labs we are conducting at the Gardens.
