Hello! As you may already know my name is Kyra Williams and I am a sophomore here at SIUE. This is our eighth week here, which means midterms!!! Very stressful for me with my major classes. With being a nursing student, I was pretty confident going into this “science” class, as time has gone on, I got a little nervous because the science we are learning is different from my Anatomy or Bacteriology classes that I have or am taking now. My favorite thing about this class is actually the “scientist spotlights” that we do sometimes, I get to learn about scientist who may look like me or just are doing something amazing in their field! One struggle of mine was the exams, I was very nervous for them, but I think the first exam went well! Besides that, this class is very interesting and different from any class I have taken!
(4) Global Learning (20%)
With this goal I plan to; Engage in both readings and class discussions to learn about multiple worldviews, cultures and experiences, prepare for class discussions on global issues, choose 2-3 reflections that reflect my discussions on certain global issues. I will use the summary, and reflections will reflect on issues from our research report, attend and actively participate in at least 95% of class sessions (besides my excused absences for basketball), complete all weekly reflections on time and answer questions fully to the best of my abilities, be prepared for class sessions.
(5) Information Literacy (30%)
I chose this goal because I want to become more versed on Information literacy and I will show my work towards this goal by; Collaborate with research group to develop a research question/ hypothesis, analyze various sources of evidence for the research report, use our research report – research question, research report – literature review and analysis, research report – Reference page, I will also show my Annotated Bibliography, and perform “Excellent” work according to the research report rubric . Lastly, I will perform “Excellent” on the pre-assignments for the research report (e.g., annotated bibliography)
(9) Problem-Solving Skills (10%)
I chose this goal to work on my problem-solving skills, and with working in groups for projects this goal will be very helpful. This CODES class is definitely different from any of the other classes I have had to take within the CODES program so far since there are exams. My problem-solving skills will be a work in progress, and I plan on showing my improvement with my exam scores. I will receive an 80% or higher on each exam to achieve this outcome and class lectures on course content to learn how to solve problems.
I do not have all of my exam grades but will show the difference between the two whenever they are graded, show the lecture notes I took, and show the map that we created in class for our final exam as well.
(10) Quantitative Literacy (25%)
This goal will be helpful for quantitative reports or worksheets that we work with, I plan on showing this goal through; class lectures and work to learn how to analyze data, analyze various sources of data for the research report and with that research report specifically the proposed experiment, and perform “Excellent” work according to the research report rubric.
(13) written communication (15%)
The last goal I chose was written communication, I want to work on my writing and understanding the readings that we will be reading. In order to show this work, I will make rough drafts for my reading reflections. I want to show this goal through many ways, and one is the final project, which is the big research report.
