Introduction
Hey girl hey! My name is Kyra Willimas. I am a freshman at SIUE. Our research team with Dr. Hildebrandt has educated me on a lot concerning the Missouri botanical gardens. As we are taking our wicked problem head on. I have learned so much in the little time I have been here such as learning new things and perfecting some things I already knew. I struggled in the beginning of this semester just because this is a very new experience for me and learning how to navigate that was challenging. I think I’ve come a long way but still have a lot to go. I have mostly enjoyed the friendships this school has gotten me and more specifically the friends the CODES program has introduced me to.
13: written communication 30%
The MCs and our source analysis both have challenged me in the way of communicating my words in a way that is helpful to the audience I am writing for. I still think that I need more practice and experience with written communication, but I believe that by the end of the semester that I will have a better understanding of the assignments. The assignments in the source analysis’ have opened up my way of thinking and how I see certain things.
5a: Defines the scope of research questions effectively and selects information cogently to address them. 10%
As the whole goal of our research team is to research. I wanted to get better at researching, freshly coming out of high school I did not really get many chances to do this in any of my classes in high school. So, this is very new to me but with the help of my fellow classmates and my amazing professor Dr. Hildebrandt I have learned a lot. I am sure there are still many things that I could work on concerning my researching abilities as the semester goes on.
8: oral Communication 10%
With the oral communication I am hoping to continue to get better with my presenting my ideas and slides to my research team. Ideas with the Missouri Botanica garden and with the herbarium. Though I have not been able to truly get to work on this a whole lot I am hoping to get better as we get deeper into our wicked problem of the herbarium. So here I am going to use my latest multi-module composition to show what we have been working on with the Missouri botanical garden. I am hoping to have more answers to all of our questions but where we are right now in our class period is very important for asking lots of questions.
3a. Identifies and analyzes their core beliefs and reflects upon their origin. 20%
This goal to me coincides with my researching. Using my research topics and how I can use them in the garden. And here I will be using my Source analysis for evidence of these. This assignment has showed me how to research and what sites would be reliable to use as well.
2b. Takes risks in assignments and in approaches to learning to create new knowledge.10%
I envision this goal of mine to help me in all assignments to take risks. By risks I mean taking a big leap and researching outside of class on my own on different websites and recourses.
