First-Week Introduction
Hello!! My name is Kyra Williams and this semester, like every semester I have set five goals to help me grow academically in this class. I want to challenge myself while ensuring I make the most of my learning experience. My goals focus on enhancing my ethical concerns, improving my knowledge on multiple cultures and backgrounds, deepening my understanding of the course content, and as well as building stronger collaboration skills with my team. Each of these goals represents an area where I believe I can continue to improve and push myself and better my whole team.
Midterm Introduction
[Speak about the skills and content you’ve learned during the first half of the semester. What did you most enjoy? What did you struggle with? What goals do you think you’ve most excelled at meeting and what do you want to continue developing during the second half of the semester? What goals haven’t you yet met, and how will you make them a priority in the second half of class?]
Final Introduction
[Now that the semester is over, use your introduction to reflect in-depth on your process. How well did you meet the goals you set out to meet? What did you learn that surprised you? Focusing on your goals for this class, what do you want to remember to take with you into your future courses? What strategies can you use to continue developing toward these goals?]
Course Goals
Choose five goals from the CODES Student Learning Outcomes that you’d like to work toward. Choose goals that are relevant to the scope of this course, select artifacts/examples based on activities assigned for this course, and explain characteristics in a way that illustrates how your artifacts/examples demonstrate your progress toward the goal.
Goal 1 (30%)
Ethical Reasoning
C. Applies ethical concepts to a question and considers their full implications.
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
I have chosen this goal because I think it is important to look at the ethical concerns when creating a product as big as what we are hoping to create. | I plan on showing this by creating my own google document of ethical concerns | I think me and my team should be aware and cautions of when creating our product for the Missouri Botanical Garden. |
Goal 2 (15%)
Information Literacy
a. Defines the scope of research questions effectively and selects information cogently to address them
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
As we go through out this process of implementing our plan that we have been working on over the course of the last year. We still have research that needs to be done to find exactly what information needs to be put out to the public on this issue of colonial extractive practices | I plan on showing this goal by the research we conduct to find information, whether that is through reading books, talking to people of different cultures, reading articles, or even watching YouTube videos. | Success in this goal would look like having a well-rounded and thoroughly researched understanding of colonial extractive practices, backed by a variety of sources. |
Goal 3 (20%)
Intercultural Knowledge and Competence
b. Demonstrates sophisticated understanding of the complexity of elements important to members of another culture in relation to history, values, politics, communication styles, economy, or beliefs and practices.
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
I chose this goal because I believe that understanding the complexity of elements like the history, values, politics, and communication styles is essential for creating a well-rounded and respectful approach to any project that involves or relates to a different culture | I will show this goal in our final plan being implemented. | I can better engage with and address the diverse needs and perspectives of the Missouri Botanical-Garden. |
Goal 4 (20%)
Skills for Lifelong Learning
a. Explores a topic in depth, yielding a rich awareness and/or little-known information indicating intense interest in the subject.
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
I chose this goal because I want the patrons of the Garden to learn a lot from our learning modules that we are creating. | I plan on showing this goal specifically through one part of our completed module. | I am hoping that our modules will explore this topic of extractive colonial practices in a deeper level that people don’t just forget about it after viewing it. |
Goal 5 (15%)
Collaboration
a. Helps collaboration move forward by articulating the merits of alternative ideas.
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
Last year my communication and collaboration weren’t the best, I tend to be quiet and not to voice my opinion. So, better communication. | I will also show this by using our shared doc of ideas that we have and how we collaboratively move from task to task! | I plan on showing this goal by showing how we are communicating about our work that we are doing outside of class time. |
