Hi, I’m Kyra!
Current: I am balancing my academic responsibilities with my role as a student-athlete. Playing basketball at SIUE is not just a sport for me; it’s a significant part of my life and an integral component of my personal development. The discipline, teamwork, and resilience that I cultivate on the court are qualities that I also carry into my studies and career ambitions. The experience of being a student-athlete has taught me the importance of time management, perseverance, and setting and achieving goals—skills that are crucial as I work towards my long-term career objective. Which is to become a pediatric nurse.
In addition to my involvement in athletics, being part of CODES has provided me with valuable opportunities to engage with the community, develop leadership skills, and connect with like-minded peers who share my dedication to making a positive impact on the community. These experiences are not only enriching my academic journey but also reinforcing my commitment to my future career in pediatric nursing.
Long-Term Goal: My ultimate goal is to become a pediatric nurse, where I can provide compassionate care to young patients and support their families through challenging times. This role resonates with me deeply because grandma was a nurse. She sadly passed in 2015, so I don’t remember a lot about her, but I do remember some of the stories she told me while working as a nurse, and all the positive impacts she had on the people she encountered daily.
After My Undergraduate Degree: I want to further My education and get my DNP, which would be a nurse practitioner. I have lived in Illinois my entire life, so it would be a dream of mine to move out of state to a big city like Alanta, Boston or even LA, because I have some family that lives in California.
Now with all that being said, I do have a lot to go before I get there, but I am very excited for what the future holds for me.
