Bio Statement

Marques Rutlin is sophomore music education major at Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville(SIUE) . He is interested in teaching Middle school band or Elementary general music in St.Louis or Illinois. His grandfather was his biggest influence and  enjoyed playing jazz around the house during his childhood. He was so inspired that he decided to venture into music at the college level playing in the SIUE wind symphony, Clarinet choir, Chamber Winds, and Clarinet studio and has fell in love with it since. Marques is also a Community-Orientated Digital Engagement Scholars (CODES) and had the opportunity to work with the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Food, Agriculture, and Nutrition Innovation Center(JJK FAN) which has helped him tremendously as a future educator. As a codes scholar he has worked with a research team to develop a solution to to a wicked problem, and his group focused on engaging students in water conservation education. In high school, Marques was very involved in music, playing in many different ensembles including the marching band ,wind ensemble, honor band, pit orchestra, jazz band, and pep band. At a young age Marques always knew he had a passion for music and helping others and is excited to see where the future takes him.
