In August of 2022, me and several others signed up to have NGRREC as our community partner.  During the first year under John Matta, we worked in our research teams to try and understand place, and how it relates to climate and ecology.  We were exposed to HTML coding, learned about AI and how OpenAI learning systems like chat GPT function, learned how to check the Twitter API, learned how to do collaborative presentations, and research online trend data.

Due to our commitment to NGRREC, Dr. Paige Mettler-Cherry, Director of Strategic Operations, allowed us to be special interns during their summer programing. There we collaborated with NGRREC in a variety of activities, learning about wetlands, ecology, and community outreach.

For my CODES capstone project, I conducted interviews from environmentalists across Madison County to understand their perspectives on environmentalism in a nation that fails to value their work. The final product of this project was an online magazine detailing my findings. Alongside the initial report, I also included several of the environmental writings and literary works I constructed during my time at SIUE to highlight my journey.
