First-Week Introduction

I chose these five goals because they challenge me to strengthen my current skills and learn new skills that will benefit me in my future career. I’m excited about the lab assignments this semester since they are different from the typical ones I’m used to. Therefore, I’m excited about this new experience and to gain more knowledge from these assignments, which may be more challenging and comprehensive. Still, I would gain a deeper understanding from them. A primary goal I am working towards is better time management because I’ve learned that time is the key to studying efficiently.

Midterm Introduction

I’ve learned a lot about effective research and used it daily while finding sources for our project. This is one thing I enjoyed. I liked looking around for resources and finding out which was most reliable because I would learn so much by just reading through the sources, and I found them very interesting. I’m still learning about using past information to solve new problems. I’m still experimenting with this and making it a priority for the second half of class.

Final Introduction

Reflecting on this past semester I learned a great amount of skills in this class. I have achieved all of my goals that I set for this semester, and I worked very hard to get to this point. These goals and new skills will help me through out college, in my future classes, internships, and jobs. I enjoyed all of the new experiences and challenges I encountered this semester and this will help me for the next three years, medical school, and my future career.

I believe that I deserve an A in this class because I have achieved the goals I set for this class at the beginning of the semester and more. I turn in all of my work in on time and I am always engaged in the assignments. I have been committed to my work and to my group, and have shown dedication in this course. I have improved on and learned new skills and gained new ones that I will use for the rest of college and my future career.

Course Goals

Goal 1 (20%)
Based on (8b. Uses compelling, appropriate delivery techniques): I want to be able to speak without being too fast or too slow while using nonverbal techniques.

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
-practicing presenting with my group

-ask others for feedback and advice for nonverbal skills while presenting
-leading SA discussions
-Lab survey interview
– scrollytelling presentation
-pictures of practicing speaking with my group
Feeling confident while presenting and using various skills while speaking verbally and nonverbally.

Our group went to JJK to discuss our interest in youth education for water conservation and the following steps to proceed.

Our group led the discussion on this source analysis, and I took several notes and key terms to highlight for our discussion.

This interview that my group did at JJKFAN helped improve my oral speaking and the more I practiced, I realized I began to feel more confident in my speaking.

Our group practiced presenting our scrollytelling and we gave each other advice and feedback and the more we practiced the more we felt confident in presenting.

Goal 2 (20%)
Based on (7c. Reviews prior learning inside and outside the classroom to reveal significantly changed educational and life experiences perspectives. When evaluating a problem, value all perspectives and use prior knowledge and expertise to aid in coming up with a solution.

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?

-Value prior assignments as learning opportunities. -Understand the meaning of each experience I encounter.
-SA
-research labs
-scrollytelling
-Survey Ethical Reseach Lab 1
-Refering to knowledge gained from past assignments or experiences and using it to aid in finding a new solution.

While completing source analysis two, I used some of my knowledge from source analysis one to compare and reflect that here.

For our scrollytelling we had to use knowledge from our previous labs and research and reflect them in our presentation to make sure we were not leaving out any crucial information.

Lab 1, made us think about how we can phrase the questions in our survey to make sure we send across the right message, assertively and clearly.

For this source analysis discussion I made sure to gather various facts and include it in my summary; because in the past discussions I noted that bringing up important facts can spark a rich conversation.

Goal 3 (20%)
Based on (9c Implements solutions to address multiple contextual factors.): Think through solutions before implementing them to make sure they don’t domino or make a negative effect.

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
-Brainstorming or mapping when finding a solution
– Research all factors to a solution to ensure various perspectives can be considered.
-miro board or brainstorming map
-Draft of Survey
-SA leading discussion
-Research lab
-Brainstorming efficiently with my group
– Researching further in detail gaining more knowledge on the topic.
-Take notes while reading, researching, and considering all factors when developing solutions.

Here is the source analysis that my group led. In my summary and analysis, I added multiple viewpoints from different perspectives that are crucial to mention.

Here is a rough draft of our survey questions and our thought process for coming up with the format and topics. We had to review these various times to ensure we were bringing across the right message.

With the help of Dr. Martinez, our group made effective edits to our Lab 1, and we had to go over our Lab various times to make sure we were not leaving out any crucial information.

For our Lab 3 we had to do various research and gain context from our previous findings to include them in this lab to ensure we are not leaving any vital factors out.

Goal 4 (20%)
Based on (6a. Articulates own cultural rules and biases and recognizes and responds to biases.): Using my knowledge about my culture and identity to realize how these biases can relate to interactions and other leading factors.

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
– communicate with others and ask about their viewpoints on stereotypes.
-Reflecting on my own cultural background and realizing how it can affect multiple outcomes.
-Survey
-Research lab #3
-Final presentation
-Scrollytelling
– communicate and asking others for their advice/views.
-Using and reflecting on my own experiences in my work.

In our survey, we added multiple-answer questions and open-ended questions to obtain a wider range of answers that are further specific to our research. We recognized biases and took that into account when we were forming the way we were asking questions by seeing it from different viewpoints.

In over Lab 3 Zach talked about several systemic challenges such as lack of funding and the fact that there are under resourced communities.

In our final presentation we talked about how biases can relate to interactions and bring along other leading factors.

In our scrollytelling we got to consider biases and how people can have different viewpoints.

Goal 5 (20%)
Based on (2a. Systematically analyzes assumptions to develop logical plans to solve problems.): Consider all outcomes when coming up with a series of solutions to solve a problem ultimately.

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
-Ask for opinions and consider different points of view for a series of solutions.-survey
-SA
-Final
-Research lab #3
-Having a deeper understanding of the problem, and a thorough solution with multiple parts to it (not just one simple solution).

Here are two questions from our survey, one being scale-based and the other multiple-select. We got to gather all of our responses and consider them to see where most educators stand and what steps can be taken next.

The most recent source analysis was completed, where I highlighted terms such as physical and economic water scarcity. I didn’t know what these terms meant until I read about it here.

With our interview with Zach we had to consider every factor mentioned and together came with a series of solutions and steps we can take to improve overall water conservation education.

For our final we had take the main points from each of our major assignments and combine them all to make one distinct topic idea. Therefore, we had to review our research information various times to check that all vital information was being stated.
