- I am majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry, I am also on a pre-med path. I have chosen this major and minor due to my interest in pursuing a career in the medical field.
- My ultimate goal is to pursue a career in the medical field specifically cardiology (study of the heart), but more specifically I want to become a cardio thoracic surgeon. A cardiothoracic surgeon treats people with diseases or injuries in their chest. The surgeries that cardiothoracic surgeons perform range from a heart valve replacement or a heart transplant. The United States is facing a shortage of cardiothoracic surgeons within the next 10 years. This shortage can deeply affect patients’ lives, to an extent where a patient would not be able to receive the care they need due to the lack of board-certified physicians.
- This semester I have taken sociology, pre-calc, and Chem 121A. In sociology I learned about different groups in society and crime in deviance. My pre-calc wasn’t challenging at all for me, 90% of the class was all review for me. I already took pre-calc in high school, and so this class wasn’t too difficult for me, I actually really enjoyed it. My chemistry class on the other hand was my most stressful class I have ever taken in my life. The workload and finding time to balance all of my assignments across all of my classes was what I found most challenging. One thing that scared me throughout the semester was the fact that I am trying so hard and not getting the results I wanted, but I tried multiple study habits and had to make various changes throughout the semester, and half way through I found out what I was doing wrong and how I needed to change.
- The next two semesters my schedule will be flooded with chemistry, biology, and math classes. That’s about it just the sequel to each of these science and math classes.
