Introduction
Year 2 sem 1: Year 2, already flying by so quickly that I wouldn’t know where to start with an intro. But i’ll say that this year has already been pretty eventful, from visiting to gardens multiple times within the past couple months. or just us even getting ready to make a plan for our project. The past year and a bit of CODES I have learned a lot in such a short amount of time. I think currently i’m doing well with just completing work, as there is a lot yet so little time to do it. I think something I am struggling with is communication when it comes to collaberation, as even though I am in the same group I was last semeseter there are still ups and downs to being in a group.
Year 2 sem 2: I can’t believe it’s already December, it feels like this semester just started. But here we are at the end of the semester, I am glad it is almost over as it have been a stressful semester. I have learned a lot about the garden and how we plan to get our project implemented. Currently I am doing well in my attempt to get through and pass my classes, as I am just making it by( i guess having 2 science focus groups can be difficult). I think something I’m struggling with is just classes, but there is nothing to be done about that.
Goal 1 (20%)
b. Connects and extends knowledge from academic study to civic engagement.
this shows how I am able to review and learn about how to interact with people. mainly the people in the garden that we directly interact with to get an idea for our projects. This helped me better develop the skill of self- assessment and connect what I learn in class to what I learn when I am at the garden. Something I might change is possibly my elaboration when I talk/ write about things.
This shows how I am able to look for sources related to our topic and connect them. As while I was researching I found that Kew garden is doing something similar to us when it comes to colonialism and the decoloization of plants. This helped me develop the skill of being able to find sources connected to our topic and project for implementation.
Goal 2 (20%)
b. Uses deep knowledge of global systems to develop and advocate for informed, appropriate action to solve complex problems. |
we have yet to aquire any more data for our project at the moment since we are working on our implementation plan. So it will have what we want to do for how we are going to start collecting more data. something I could do differently is start looking for things related to our project just to be prepared.
We just presented our final slides and I think this helped me and my group advocate for the project we are creating. So this shows that we are able to come up with a project to help take action at the garden. While also being able help people better understand colonialism and how the garden is associated with it. We might not have all the data we need but there is definately progress moving forward.
Goal 3 (20%)
a. Uses clear organizational patterns and is skillful at presenting content cohesively. |
Sadly I have yet to present, I know I have had an oppertunity. But due to me not knowing how our “dear sean letter” looked finished, I didn’t have confidence in my presenting abilities. I learned that I should prepare for anything that might happen with our project, as there is a theme when we are working and suddenly have something different than we thought. Something I might do next time is start doing extra work just in case something goes wrong. As I should start planning for the worst.
I’d say I did pretty well when presenting my portions of our presentation. I may have been sick at the time but I believe that even when sick I was able to clearly present the information I had in the slides. As I said in the 1st part of this section I might start doing more work and I did. Since there wasn’t an equal way to do slides I took 2 to make it easier on my group mates and also feel like I am doing good work for our project.
Goal 4 (20%)
a. Helps collaboration move forward by articulating the merits of alternative ideas. |
This shows how i am able to collaborate with others by doing my section that I agreed to do. While I am able to suggest alternative ideas for this collberation didn’t need anymore input other than what I said I was going to write. I learned how to better collaberate with my teammates. Something I might do differently is take on a little more work just in case.
I feel like a collaborated a lot more this time. As I did 2 of our slides for our project while also helping come up with ideas for how exactly we plan to implement our project. As this shows collaberation with my teamates in one of the meeting we had to get a better ideas. it also shows that I show participate when we meet as a group.
Goal 5 (20%)
b. Identifies and evaluate multiple approaches for solving problems. |
This shows how I am able to reflect on our first visit to the garden and being able to change our idea on what we wanted to do originally. A skill that I learned is compromise, because we all had something we wanted to do but decided to change it to better fit what we wanted to do. I can’t think of anything that I would do differently right now.
This shows how I am able to reflect on problems and find ways around them. For example the long standing communication issue, is slowly being solved of course there are still problems but I think we are slowly coming to the understanding we need. To fully function as a group and work together to hopefully make a good impact at the garden with our project. I guess a skill I learned is teamwork, because if you don’t work with your teamates then the whole thing will fall apart.
