Reflection #1: Observation and Inference
I think some of the obstacles to perceiving my group’s work is, the fact that people visiting the garden are not likely to have a wide knowledge of colonialism. So, even beginning our work, we must think about what people might know and expand on that. Also, the way we will present as it is really important for not only the visitors’ interest but the people who work for the garden. I would say our partners seem excited, but there is never a sure idea of what everyone thinks unless they voice it. As I think they are excited for this entire project, it is best to think that they are excited to see how everyone’s projects are and how they turn out. I think trust is a big part of this project, because if we do not have the trust and help, we need to do this. So, some barriers that come with trust are people, humans are not very trusting of something is they are not sure of the outcome. Another barrier could be that our project brings some things to light that are not often brought up. It could hinder the possible trust if they are not confident in what we are trying to present to visitors. I think our plans can adjust to whatever they ask within reason. As we want to possibly have our project be presented in their paper booklets, because it seems like an effective way to explain. Whilst also allowing people to learn about colonialism if they want to and not have it forced in their face. So, I think we can adapt to whatever their needs are, or what they want to show to visitors based on our project. We originally wanted to do signage but seeing the signs in person and holding them we decided against it. So, since it is their garden, and they are the ones who will support us in making our project become real. I think we should keep in mind what they need and want us to do while also allowing us to show our ideas on colonialism while also bringing in their knowledge and what the garden has to offer on this topic. This project is an important thing and will take time and work to make it work, so whatever comes we will find a way to make sure it is the best it can be.
