First-Week Introduction
For this semester, I chose goals that I feel like would make me a better student and person. To start off, I chose 13c. Mastering clear and fluent communication is a great way to comply with the world in general. In any group project, during group discussion, you’re throwing out different ideas, opinions, and personalities. If you can express your thoughts clearly and listen actively, you’re already in fit as a good peer. This also means choosing your words carefully and being mindful of your tone. When everyone understands each other, conflicts are very little, and collaboration becomes way easier. Plus, clear communication isn’t just about talking, it’s about writing effective emails, giving constructive feedback, and leading discussions that keep everyone on track. Next up, I chose 2b. Then, taking risks in how you’re learning is the way that you tap into new information. That can possibly mean learning outside the box, so to speak, trying unconventional problem-solving methods, or even testing your own assumptions. By approaching group projects this way, you’ll be able to create more innovative solutions and question conventional wisdom better. Don’t hesitate to suggest wild ideas or provoke controversy – you just don’t know where it will lead you. Remember that learning is an experiment and error process, and each risk you take is an opportunity for you to learn and grow as a person. Understanding diverse worldviews and power structures is also super important, especially in today’s world. That is why I chose 4a. College campuses are melting pots of different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives. Especially SIUE. By developing cultural intelligence, we can all navigate these diverse environments with sensitivity and respect. This means being aware of your own biases, actively seeking out different viewpoints, and understanding how power dynamics can influence group interactions. When you approach group work with these proper expectations, we’re all better equipped to bridge cultural gaps, foster inclusivity, and create a more equitable and collaborative environment. Mastering clear communication, embracing learning risks, understanding diverse worldviews, delivering compelling presentations, and seeking knowledge beyond the classroom are vital for group success and overall achievement. That is why I chose goal 8b. Finally, the last goal I chose for this semester is 7b. I will pursue knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom.
Midterm Introduction
Only skill I’ve learned so far definitely is being somewhat comfortable with the uncomfortable. What I mean by this is embracing me being in this class and pushing myself to a comfort zone. I’ve had a hard time adjusting to this class. I’ve never been a fan of science. I already have a short attention span. The course itself is a really hard class for me to pay attention in. The only thing that motivates me are the due dates. When I’m around an environment that I’m not comfortable with I tend to be overly quiet. That is why I don’t necessarily speak in this class or actively participate in this class. There’s not much I can say as for mid-terms. I just hope to continue to grow and push forward no matter what, in this course.
Final Introduction
[Now that the semester is over, use your introduction to reflect in-depth on your process. How well did you meet the goals you set out to meet? What did you learn that surprised you? Focusing on your goals for this class, what do you want to remember to take with you into your future courses? What strategies can you use to continue developing toward these goals?]
