First-Week Introduction
[Complete the goal-setting portions of your class portfolio by choosing your goals, going over the syllabus in detail, and explaining what assignments you may use to demonstrate how you have been developing in those areas and what will best demonstrate your progress. Then, write a brief introduction here where you explain why you chose your five goals. What assignment makes you most excited for the semester? Which one seems like it will be the most challenging? What strategies do you want to set for yourself to make the semester a success?]
Midterm Introduction
[Speak about the skills and content you’ve learned during the first half of the semester. What did you most enjoy? What did you struggle with? What goals do you think you’ve most excelled at meeting, and what do you want to continue developing during the second half of the semester? What goals haven’t you yet met, and how will you make them a priority in the second half of class?]
Final Introduction
[Now that the semester is over, use your introduction to reflect in-depth on your process. How well did you meet the goals you set out to meet? What did you learn that surprised you? Focusing on your goals for this class, what do you want to remember to take with you into your future courses? What strategies can you use to continue developing toward these goals?]
Course Goals
I greatly enjoyed my first semester here at SIUE. I loved learning to manage my time, adjust my studying, value the professor’s office hours, and use resources here at the university. I truly enjoyed two particular courses, including The Dramatic Experience and History of Black America 1865 to the Present. I struggled with studying consistently and often. The goals I improved upon were my communication skills, listening, and work ethic. I wish to continue honing my academic skills. I hope to manage my schoolwork and workload. Next semester, I plan to take RA 101, ANTH 111B, ECON 112, GEOG, and HIST 112 A or HIST 112 B. During the Spring 2027 semester, I plan on taking HIST 330, ECON 111, and POLS 112.

| I will try to help myself and my group by presenting feasible ways to communicate differences promptly. | Through texts or CODES-related group chats. I will aid and encourage my peers when we face issues. I’ll show that I consider both the strengths and weaknesses of myself and others to avoid unproductivity and lead us to success. | The skill of problem-solving should be recognizable and displayed to my peers and our CODES leaders. |
Goal 2 (20%)
Reading- Evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts or issues.
As an academic reader, I can read a given text and find areas of connection. In these areas, there is a visible grasp of material importance.

| Making detailed and specific in-text annotations. Re-reading a text two or three times. And listening to an auditory recording and reading aloud the assigned text. | Uploading images of in-text annotations and any comments or questions I leave on my assigned texts. And possibly break down my “reading process”. | I can have an in-class discussion with peers about the text. I can voice my opinion and thoughts on an assigned text in my own words. I can memorize important passages or themes of a given text. |
Goal 3 (20%)- Collaboration
CODES- Helps collaboration move forward by articulating the merits of alternative ideas.
As a cohort collaborator, I will ensure that just, honest, and empathic concern shows in research/input.

| I will always keep an open mind and be kind when hearing my peers’ ideas and thought processes. | I will upload images of group chat messages where we are planning “a plan of attack”. Display a willingness to compromise my thoughts when forming a research question or compiling data. | My peers will feel like I wasn’t overstepping and trying to supersede their motivations, planning, and overall work. With their permission and the instructor’s, I can record an in-class discussion between each of us. |

I will think of families and individuals who can be experiencing a “drought” in resources. | My peers and instructors can recognize that I have a holistic concern. I value the safety and well-being of others through means that best serve them. And I’m able to show that I display an Ethos/Pathos set of ideals, respectfully. |
