During my Ethnography, I was tasked with going into our Goshen Lounge. This is a lounge that is in the middle of the main floor of the Morris University Center. Usually, the Goshen Lounge is very empty, with only a few people hanging out around the sides. Fortunately, on the day that we conducted the ethnography, there was an event going on. From what we were able to gather from sitting and observing, it was some sort of mental health event. There were booths all around concerning either how to help others who are going through tough times, or just some booths that were promoting mental health awareness. There was a lot going on at the time so we were not able to point out specifics that were happening, but just the general idea of what was happening. When conducting the ethnography, I had a good time. I spent my time both doing a sort of arts and crafts station that we sat at and observing others and what they were doing. This was my first time ever doing something like an ethnography, so I was kind of confused when they asked us to just observe people. But then they explained it as noticing patterns and I realized that I kind of do that already so it wouldn’t be too bad to do. I was not able to stay the whole hour we were supposed to observe people though because I had to go to class. Overall, I personally liked doing the ethnography and would like to do one again sometime for research.
