Audience Analysis

The article that I chose was called “Why The Super Rich Are Inevitable” by Alvin Chang. The article talks about a subject referred to as the Yard-Sale Model. This says that purchases will not even out over time. I think that my audience is going to be resellers, the public, and sellers/buyers. It is going to be resellers because resellers like to try to make their money back with their sales, as do most people. Continuing, the public is also a big part of this audience. Many people make purchases and when they do not want the item they purchased anymore, they sell the item or throw it away. If they choose to sell it, they would like to get their money back, or most of their money back. Finally, buyers and sellers would like to get bargains for their items. Buyers want the item for less, and the seller wants to make more money than what they paid for.

Buyers and sellers are usually greedy or stingy with their money. Buyers like to negotiate the price so that they can get a deal that they think is right. The seller, however, wants the price of the item to be higher so they can get a better profit from the transaction. I am not sure if all the sellers in the world know about the Yard-Sale model, but I am highly doubtful.

The Yard-Sale Modelstates that if you overpay for something and try to balance it out later with other purchases and sales, it will never even out. The best way to appeal to this audience is the same way that the author of “Why the super rich are inevitable” appeals to their audience. They start off with a purchase that they made and how they tried to make their money back, but it was all for nothing. This could also be used on social media platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram. TikTok now has a feature called the “TikTok Shop.” This is the most prominent form of this. On the other platforms, people are trying to sell items just by posting about them. If showing them that even if they sell their items, eventually the person buying will not be making profit because they are most likely overpaying. Another way to look at the Yard-Sale Model is to think of it economically. When the government makes a purchase to invest in something, they usually do not get their money back. That is one of the main reasons the United States is in debt right now.
