Grading Portfolio (CODE 120)

This second half of the first semester has been a roller coaster. Getting back from a break just to have to do work for a couple weeks, finals, and then go back on a longer break was stressful. We had many assignments to do, but luckily, Dr. Despain was pretty easy on us. The biggest thing we had to do was a map for a project. My group ended up with community development. If you would like to see what we did, there is a separate page called “Digital Project #3” that has the link to the map that we created. We each were in charge of four slides to write, all 250-500 words each. I got my slides done before we needed to, so that helped out Sophia a lot to make the map on time.

We were actually able to present the information really well, and one funny moment from it came from me when I was speaking about a mural of books and I said, “It’s not just books.”

I had other assignments as well, but this was the one I focused the most on.

Goal 1 (20%)

Reads using an appropriate lens and can engage in a continuing dialogue withing and beyond a discipline or a community of readers.

Even though this was for a required project, this assignment really tested my analysis skills. All of this was derived from a picture of a book mural I had taken on South Grand.

Goal 2 (20%)

Systematically analyzes assumptions to develop logical plans to solve problems.

The most prominent example of this would be the Digital Project #3. I realized that I needed to write 4 slides all consisting of 250 words each. So, I decided that I would need to knock some of them out intially to lessen the load on myself. I did this by writing my first two slides within a day.

This one looks different because I tried to put a style on it which I ended up discarding later.

Goal 3 (10%)

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of context, audience, and purpose.

Again, going back to Digital Project #3, I had to consider audience when writing my slides.

I basically summarized an article about Tower Grove south and made it more understandable for people reading.

Goal 4 (10%)

Develops clear, innovative central messages with significant supporting materials.

I chose both of these because they are reflections on what we had read and it helps support this goal a lot.

Goal 5 (40%)

I may not have done this one as early as I would have liked, but for some reason I could not get any motivation to do it. Eventually, I pulled through and was able to turn it in.

Going back to Digital Project #3, Sophia needed all of our slides by the friday before we presented. Because this deadline was in place, I cranked out the slides and was able to give them to Sophia by friday.
