The website starts with some of their more notable or recognized collections at the bottom of the first page. The content of these collections can range from just about 20 to 250 items. This can show how much they can contribute to a collection, and how much they care for said collections to have added that much material. The mission of the Jesuit Archives is to honor Superior General Pedro Arrupe. Arrupe was most known for revitalizing the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits; hence the name “Jesuit Archives.”
On the website, there is not much about their founding, just about how they relocated and changed their name. They were formerly known as the “Jesuit Archives: Central United States” and then moved to St Louis, Missouri, now going by the name “Jesuit Archives & Research Center.”
Concerning some of the documents within the archive itself, before looking up was a “Jesuit” was, I had no idea what was meant by a Jesuit. A Jesuit is also part of the Jesuit Order, which is also known as the Society of Jesus. Some sort of background information would be beneficial to the understanding of people trying to access this archive. There is a quote on the home page of the archive, but it only mentions a God and our “origins.” Because of this, the archives seem to be there to serve the Jesuits and possibly any other religion that would like to know something that could link their religion and the Jesuits together. Or, they could have a document that could be beneficial to them in general.
