My Experiences in Speech-Language Pathology
In this section, I will share the experiences I have had throughout my undergraduate journey that have helped me learn more about the field of speech-language pathology. These experiences have given me opportunities to explore different areas of the field, learn from professionals, and gain a better understanding of the type of clinician I hope to become.
Experiences:
National Speech-Language-Hearing Association Member– 2024-Present
Active member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA). Attend meetings and participate in activities and events related to speech-language pathology and audiology. Gain opportunities to learn more about the field, connect with other students, and explore future professional opportunities.
Early Childhood Hearing Screenings
As part of a Special Topics course at SIUE, gained hands-on experience conducting hearing screenings with children at the SIUE Early Childhood Center. Practice working directly with children while learning more about the importance of early identification of hearing concerns.
Head Start Preschool Edwardsville – Volunteer
August 2025 – December 2025
Supported preschool-aged children through classroom activities and daily interactions while gaining hands-on experience in an early childhood setting. Received Employee of the Month award for my help in the classroom.
URCA– Undergraduate Research Assistant Volunteer
January 2025 – May 2025
On a team that conducted a research project exploring how students perceive the relationship between ECE and SLP before and after a semester-long partnership in their preparation programs.
