First-Week Introduction

The goals that I’ve chosen for this semester/year is ethical reasoning, global learning, information literacy, skills for lifelong learning and written communication. I’ve chose these outcomes to strengthen my critical thinking skills, learn how to think and adapt to different cultures and different perspectives that I’m used to and grow in ways that I’ve struggled in from the previous semesters. I’m excited for all assignments this semester. I feel as if none would be as challenging as it seems if i ask for help and use my resources. Using the resources around me and asking for help and improving on my note taking skills will help set myself up for a successful future.

Midterm Introduction

During this first semester it was quite of a challenge sometimes when I needed questions or had to figure out how to navigate volunteer events on my own for the first time but it was all fun in the end. I’ve learned a lot of skills like, cultivating interview questions, learning how to analyze visual videos, and interact with people beyond the classroom. I enjoyed the volunteer event the most because it helped me learn how to interact with people from different ages and know why they think the way they do. Also, it helped me learn more about plants and I left with questions and curiosity and a recommended app to use to learn more about plants. I struggled the most with the e portfolio because of a lot of technical difficulties but regardless of them all it was still pretty worth the while and I’ve gained a lesson from it, which is to never give up even when life is throwing you curve balls. Another thing I struggled with this year was coming to all of my classes but everything happens for a reason and it gets better from here. I’ve mastered learning how to research useful information for my research project and use the information effectively and coming up with my own analysis and research. Some goals I have not met yet is communicating with my group and coming together to talk about what we all have so far. I can reach out and possibly make an meeting date and time to make this a priority in the second half of semester.

Final Introduction

After doing months of research and setting goals to help me become better as a person doing research, Iโ€™ve accomplished all the goals I had set for myself to become this person. Iโ€™ve gotten better with my communication, writing, creative thinking, problem solving, and awareness skills. I met most of my goals by stepping outside of my comfort zone and trying new things which is the main point of my research project. We need to bring awareness to water conservation and trying better practices to conserve water but itโ€™ll be hard if people donโ€™t step outside of their comfort zone. Which is something I want to take into my future courses with me; even if things gets challenging Iโ€™ll at least take the risk.

Course Goals

Choose five goals from the CODES Student Learning Outcomes that youโ€™d like to work toward. Choose goals that are relevant to the scope of this course, select artifacts/examples based on activities assigned for this course, and explain characteristics in a way that illustrates how your artifacts/examples demonstrate your progress toward the goal.

5. I will use volunteer events

1. Plan affectively meetings

2. Annotate notes and articles

Below I have video links from collected data to show the issues in why people know what they know and where their information comes from. This helped me understand and come up with questions to make a video like the ones I’ve watched to fix these multi layered ethical problems in the world.

Below I have attached Reflection #1. It has helped me gather information and question what I may need to know or do to further part of my research project. It has also prepared me for the volunteer events.

Below I have attached the process description assignment. This assignment has helped me reach this goal by recognizing the relationship/the stakeholders between young adults and how much they know about water conservation and how the data I’ve collected can support this information.

Below I have attached my instructor feedback. This has helped me see the things I could improve in to better articulate an well written paper.

Below I have attached a photo from the volunteer event to support how I’ve learned to recognize multi layered ethical issues which are the prairie plants and how they aren’t supported by the plants needed because of the native plants killing them.

Global learning: Adapts and applies a deep understanding of multiple world views, experiences, and power structures while initiating meaningful interactions with other cultures to address significant global problems

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?

1. I will take notes at group meetings/discussions

2. I will annotate readings and notes

3. I will stay prepared and on top of readings so that I can be engaged in discussions

Below I have attached a photo from the volunteer event. The photo has helped me cultivate a deep understanding of the world and how it works and what all it takes to have a strong firm foundation.

Below I have included videos that have been collected for my research project to help me produce my own video. These videos have given me a different perspective on how people in the world go about using things especially things we use for everyday use.

Below I have included a photo from discussion conversations that we discussed in class. This photo provides a bigger scope than just what is seen. The meaning behind this photo being taken shows how in dept the conversations we have in class can be held especially with people who have different knowledge that can be provided to some who may not have that knowledge.

Below I have included instructor to-do lists that have helped not only me but everyone in class to get their work done in a orderly and timely manner so that we can all come together in the end and have a outstanding research project.

Below I have attached video links that I’ve used for my research that have helped me tackle my groups research question and to understand a deeper meaning on why people know what they know and where they information comes from.

5a (25%)
Information literacy: Defines the scope of research questions effectively and selects information cogently to address them

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
1. I will come together with my research group to develop research questions

Below I have attached pictures from my volunteer events to show the personal insight I’ve gained from this event and how I’ve used my research question to gain knowledge from different people.

Below I have reflection #3 and how it has helped me define the information collected in many ways and also how it helped me see some other things i may have to tackle to get a deeper understanding for my research.

Below I have my research questions attached. These questions have helped me achieve this goal by having the different scope of questions to figure out how we can get the answer to the overall research question.

Below I have attached an screen shot of my instructor informing everyone of the things they should have done before class starts, what they need to have done by the end of class, and what needs to be done before the beginning of next class. This has helped me achieve this goal by reaching and completing assignments in a orderly manner and also helping my cultivate due dates for myself.
