First-Week Introduction
I chose these five goals because I know that after achieving these goals, they will help me be prepared for the future, I will know how to think more critically when approaching situations, these specific skills can be lifelong learning skills that can help me in the future that I wouldn’t have thought of. The assignments that I’m most excited for is the survey assignments and just conducting surveys. An assignment I feel like that’ll be most challenging is the final project assignment but I say this because it’s always most likely the project that challenges everything I’ve learned over the semester and makes me think on what I know and don’t know and recognize some things I may have to revisit. Some strategies I want to set for myself to make the semester a success is to have discipline, to not procrastinate, make better study habits and to turn work in on time.
Midterm Introduction
I have learned so many skills and content during the first half of the semester. I what I enjoyed the most is how to read data, how to tell the difference from quantitative and qualitative data, what is a mixed method and how to construct surveys. What I struggled the most was staying on top of my source analysis. Some of the readings were hard to understand or uninteresting and having to pull data from those type of readings makes it difficult. Some goals I feel as if I’ve most excelled at is being able to think outside the box and also ask questions when I don’t understand even if I’m wrong, it’s better to ask questions than being wrong and/or confused. Some goals I haven’t met yet are being able to turn my work in on time. I feel as if I procrastinate so much that it puts me behind just a little so to fix this I have to balance my time and go into better environments that’ll encourage me to get my work done.
Final Introduction
After the second semester I feel as if I met my goals I had set for this semester. There were a few challenges. Some challenges or something that surprised me is the tension me and my research team had between each other trying to communicate orally, think critically and take risks to get the job done. Even though I had those challenges I feel as if I got through it all well and it helped me with a lot of life long skills I could use for next semester and the future. What I can remember to take into my future courses is that it is okay to take risks in assignments to learn to create new knowledge, use appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to illustrate mastery of the subject, evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts or issues and many other things.
Course Goals
(20%)2b : Take risks in assignments and in approaches to learning to create new knowledge
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
What I can do to learn the content and develop the skill is to step out of my comfort zone and ask questions about assignments that I’m not the best at and put in effort to learning new content to enhance my critical and creative thinking skills. | 1. Coding 2. Source analysis 3. Presentations 4. Labs | Participate in group presentations Open minded within assignments |

Here is an photo of an lab that we did in class. This helped me learn to create new knowledge by doing on hand lab experiments.

This is an example of a presentation that was shown to us in class to help us learn how to transcribe interviews and conduct them.

Coding the interviews helped me think creatively by learning how to use all the codes I got from the interviews and group them into repeating themes.
(20%)7b: Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
What I can do to learn the content and develop the skill is to use the collaboration skills and knowledge I’ve learned last semester and help with future group projects to enhance my knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom. | 1. Group work 2. Site visits 3. Interviewing 4. Publishing Surveys | Site visits will help me be able to learn more content with my research team and connect with our community partners Publishing surveys that my team and I conducted helps us know more about others beyond the classroom |

This photo shows me and my team doing group work to pursues knowledge and our experiences of working together not just in the classroom but beyond the classroom.

This is an photo of me and my research team working at our site visits to not only figure out ways to know more about young adults in class but outside the classroom as well
(20%)13b : Uses appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to illustrate mastery of the subject, conveying the writer’s understanding, and shaping the whole work
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
What I can do to learn the content and develop the skill is to do writing assignments and get feedback to know how to write appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to illustrate mastery of the subject. | 1. Labs 2. Projects 3. Scrolly telling 4. Source Analysis | Doing labs will help show the work I’ve done over the semester to Doing group projects will help |

(20%)1b: Connects and extends knowledge from academic study to civic engagement
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
What I can do to learn the content and develop the skill is to strengthen my ability to solve problems and to elaborate on how I can learn to make a difference. I can learn how to make a change in the community or within classrooms when learning new content and apply it when learning with others. | 1. Heartland visits 2. Source Analysis 3. Group work 4. Lab | The visits with our Heartlands will help me be able to transfer information from classroom/group discussions and be able to present work effectively My source analysis will demonstrate the ability and commitment that I continuously put into my work Group work will help me with learning how to see things in different ways and learn new wats to make a difference |

(20%)11a: Evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts or issues
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
What I can do to learn the content and develop the skill is to learn how to evaluate text through reading. Reading isnโt my biggest strength but what I could do to improve that is use assignments in class to not only enhance my reading skills but also apply reading to other contexts or issues. | 1. Zotero 2. Source Analysis 3. Scrolly telling 4. Lovejoy Library | Doing the scrolly telling will help me use what I’ve learned this year and apply it to other contexts or issues like scrolly telling Using the Lovejoy library and its resources will help improve my reading skills and also it will give me a way/source to use in assignments, to show that I have used this effectively. |

Here I included a screenshot from Zotero with articles and citations that I could apply to other assignments.

Here is an screen shot of me using the Love Joy Library resource to get information and citations for my research group. Using this resource helps me be able to read and find information that I may need. I can apply the info I find to my project.
This is a link to my team and I scrolly telling. Doing scrolly telling helped me learn how to evaluate text through reading.

Doing this specific analysis which is the scrolly telling one, it helped me not only write out my source analysis on paper but read a different article from the usual ones we read and talk about how the article is important to the specific topic.
