Introduction
During the first eight weeks of the semester I have been able to manage my time better than I did last semester as well as analyse more sources in a more scholarly way. I have also moved from analysing the sources we read for class to analysing the movies we watched for class too and understanding the meaning behind them. I have also become more vocal in class and participating in the in – class discussions. As I said before, I have gotten better with time management. The main way I have done this is by making daily to-do lists after I finish all of my classes and crossing off each item after I have completed it. This has helped me see exactly what all I need to do and it has helped me remember assignments I have to do. One thing that I think I have gotten better at is paying attention in class and asking questions. Last semester I felt like my mind was never in class, I just couldn’t pay attention no matter how hard I tried and because of this I was always lost but I felt ashamed to ask questions so I just never did. This semester, I have gotten way better at paying attention and asking questions and there’s times where I still space off for a few minutes but I’ve learned to be honest and ask questions so I can make sure I am 100% certain as to what is going on. One thing that I have enjoyed very much this semester is how much we’ve been able to work with Ms. Dorothy Hummel so far. Last semester was hard and I know there were some scheduling conflicts so we didn’t get to see Ms. Hummel much but I think that having a different scheduled time for class worked better for everyone and now we get to learn more about the Y and the projects they have planned and groups that they have going on to help the people of Alton.
Goal 1
Civic Engagement: Demonstrates ability and commitment to collaboratively work across and within community contexts and structures to achieve a civic aim; Hopefully be able to learn more about the YWCA and Dorothy and any upcoming events they will have.
We have been able to meet with Dorothy a couple of times this semester and she has told us about groups they have going on at the Y such as boys and girls groups for the kids in the community. They also have before and after school programs to help the parents who work later and can’t be home with their children right after school, or even if they just want their kids to have more social interaction.
Goal 2
Ethical Reasoning: Recognises multilayered ethical issues and the cross- relationships among them;Read articles about the issues YWCA deals with such as racial injustice, mental health, empowering women and a focus on youth.
We’ve completed a few source analyses that relate to the YWCA and their goals and mission.
Goal 3
Reading: Evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts or issues; Try to find at least two articles per month, read and analyse them, figure out how they could relate to each other and the YWCA
This one kind of relates back to goal 3 since it deals with articles and how they can relate to the YWCA.
Goal 4
Collaboration: Works independently toward team goals by contributing to efforts and meeting deadlines; Do research outside of class and write deadlines in my planner for the day its due and a week before its due date so I can remember it
I talked about it a little bit in the introduction, but I’ve started making daily to – do lists. I also went through my planner and wrote in each deadline for each class from January- finals week.
Goal 5
Written Communication: Uses language that communicates meaning to readers with clarity and fluency; Use words that people actually understand when doing work that people are going to be reading and not making words more complicated just to look smarter.
For this I’ll just include screenshots of papers or essays I have written for the assignments.
The two links are papers I have written this semester and I thought it might be easier to just upload those instead of take screenshots of them
