Reflection #3

Posted on October 22, 2025 by zmedina

My experience overall, hosting interviews was amazing. I attended an event hosted by Heartlands conservancy. What has gone well during my project is primarily the whole thing. I didn’t have trouble transforming and coding my final product which excited me the most. I actually even made new knowledge such as learning how to code. I also learned that with coding, comes themes. I identified many different themes while going over my interviews which I found interesting. The event consisted of tagging monarchs and learning their history while exploring the garden. The event was located at their exploration garden in Swansea. There were many people there that caught my attention. I genuinely didn’t think there were going to be as many people as they were. I had so much fun exploring nature, the garden itself, and tagging monarchs. I saw so many monarchs and beautiful flowers. The only problem I didn’t foresee was my targeted age group. Out of all the people there, we all were separated into groups so we could all get our own experience. As far for my project, attending this event allowed me to really articulate and improve our whole central idea. My targeted age group for our project were ages ranging from 18-25, however, during the event that I attended there weren’t any young adults there besides me. There was one kid, but he was 3. I mean what could he possibly know about water conservation? LOL. For a second, I was bummed out that there weren’t any young adults. I even developed an idea to interview the baby LOL. Nonetheless, in a way I am actually pretty glad that there weren’t young adults around because it gave me better point of view of the older generation. The allowed me to understand the fact that they were born during a time where technology wasn’t a thing or even thought of. So, they had no choice but to be outside exploring nature. Which is a good thing. This event allowed me to put my phone down for a couple hours and allowed me to reconnect with nature in a way. The responses I received overall were the part of my project that went well for me. I feel as if I received many different responses which I loved because it allowed me to hear different point of views which were one of my goals. Also, during my interviews, I saw a pattern of responses. Many individuals had the same responses to some questions whether they were the same age or not. It wasn’t hard convincing the individuals to participate in my project. Many were excited to be interviewed, and others were excited to talk about the topic. What do I believe I should have done differently? I really wished I would have attended an event on campus and record my actual targeted age group responses. Since I already have responses with the opposing age group, I thought it would have been a great idea to compare both responses.
