First-Week Introduction

I have started my second semester in CODES and a new class, Research and Systems and Thinking. I am very excited to have a new teacher. All of my CODES teachers are so nice and amazing. I don’t know exactly what I will be learning in this class, but how the program runs is different, so I know I will learn and build new knowledge beyond my average courses. One of the things that I may have challenges learning is working on new programs or systems of analysis, but over time, it will become a habit that will make my learning easy to accomplish assignments and analyze data from research. I hope to demonstrate my knowledge through the assignments on how to approach and write my research through the course of the class.

Midterm Introduction

So far, I have learned many things from programs on building and sending out a survey. One thing that I enjoyed was learning the different parts you need to review when writing survey questions. Simple is better; keeping questions short in 8th grade level for simple and fast reading with not to many opean repsongs. i feel that I still need to work on my first goal I haven’t challenge myself that much. but i sill have half of the semester to get myself on the right path and build a routine to stay organize and getting my work done on time.

Final Introduction

As the semester has ended, I am happy to say that I have learned things I wouldn’t have thought I would as a business major in college. One of the goals this semester was critical and creative thinking, as well as reading. From this semester, I was able to further explore and understand the researcher’s reality and struggles when researching specific areas of culture and people. Another thing that I learned this semester that I will use to keep doing research in the future is Dr. Bradley’s 5-step Content analysis. As I move deeper into research in my career, CODES, I hope to improve my archival methods and presentation skills.

Course Goals

Choose five goals from the CODES Student Learning Outcomes that you’d like to work toward. Choose goals that are relevant to the scope of this course, select artifacts/examples based on activities assigned for this course, and explain characteristics in a way that illustrates how your artifacts/examples demonstrate your progress toward the goal.

Goal 1 (20%)
2B. Critical & Creative Thinking – Takes risks in assignments and in approaches to learning to create new knowledge. (CODES Student Learning Outcomes): learn to explore new ways of approaching assignments with risks.

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?

I will leave my comfort zone to try new methods to approach assignments.

– Reflections 5
– Final Project
– Discussions
– Find a survey assignment

Interaction in our class discussions by risk answers a question that I may not be sure about. Answer my reflection with different approaches and ideas.

For my four findings in this goal, all of my findings come from the ethnography work I did in week 11. The materials from week 11 align with my goal of critical and creative thinking. I learned what Ethnography is, as I had no idea what it was or how it was a type of research. During my reading in class with our guest speaker, I better understood what happens when you get involved in a community. The researchers observe and write notes on what they do, how, and why. The article’s annotation opened my mind and made me think, as I did not know the struggle the Geechee community is going through. I hope to have the opportunity to do research in a community and get exposure to become a better researcher.

Goal 2 (20%)
13B Written Communication – Use appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to illustrate mastery of the subject, conveying the writer’s understanding and shaping the whole work. (CODES Student Learning Outcomes):

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
I will do this thing
– research
– notes
– annotation
– scrips
– assignment top 5s on readings
– Plagiarism training
– Final Project
– Reflection 4
showing understanding of the assignment what I read and what I learned from it on the paper by using how complex words related to the topics

My four findings are a combination of assignments that show this goal. I showed mastery in the Google side presentation on # Mental Health Awareness using archival methods, research posts on Instagram, and coding for idealistic matching of hashtags. How to relate to mental health awareness, and why the public needs to use it. From reflection 4, I analyzed focus groups and interviews. When it comes to interview groups, you have to have a different approach to make them feel in a safe space to be able to get many perspectives on the questions you ask them. I hope to be able to use their way of thinking when undergoing a group interview.

Goal 3 (20%)
10A Quantitative literacy – Uses quantitative information to support arguments and draw logical conclusions. (CODES Student Learning Outcomes):

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?

I will use collaborative learning and critical thinking when writing my assignment conclusion.
– Reflections 2
– Dataset Review
– Article Annotation
(Rawson & Munoz)
– Data Notes
demonstrating my critical thinking on the reflection of our reading or how during our group activities, I used problem solving to come up with a conclusion to build a solution.

For my goal 3, I decided to use most of the assignments I used in week 6 as they relate to data cleaning using quantitative and information-supporting arguments on the data provided to me by Dr. B. She showed us how to analyze the data number and response from one of her old surveys. From that week’s reflection, I could go through the assignments to write my reflection on the information. I learned that data cleaning is critical. It gives you easy access to format and analyze your data for a more significant understanding.

Goal 4 (20%)
11C Reading – Reads using an appropriate lens and can engage in a continuing dialogue within and beyond a discipline or a community of readers. (CODES Student Learning Outcomes):

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?

– reading more in deeply
– identifying my lens
– take notes and annotate
– Article Annotation of Water Inequality
– Reflection 6
– Chapter 4&9 Top 5
– Reflection 7

being able to enter the discussion with with a different view as to lens and, on my reading have notes to show my understanding ,

For my four findings, I’m using information from weeks 12 and 13. For this goal, I got out of reading and had to show my understanding of the information I read and what I got from it. From my top 5, I see that the research is about how people react to using phones when interacting with other people. To my surprise, a young person who grew up with technology was that when it comes to interacting with people, they put their phones away to talk to people. From reflection 6, I was able to write about my understanding of qualitative data from what Dr. B taught us, and the tools, and getting other people to view your data, helps give a new view to improve your data. I hope to use these methods when writing my qualitative data.

Goal 5 (20%)
7A Skills for Lifelong Learning – Explores a topic in-depth, yielding rich awareness and/or little – known information indicating intense in the subject (CODES Student Learning Outcomes):

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?

participating in class activities and discussions, taking notes, listening in-depth to guest speakers
– Psychology Groups
– discussing
-Building Survey
– CITI Training Certification
had become a better note-taker and skills in research on specific topics during of class

For this goal, my four findings are based on what I learned during this class. That has helped me build skills that have a lifelong, positive impact on my life and how I view and approach research from the certification in human research and responsible conduct of research. I learned that you must always consider the people participating in your research. How to minimize risk and harm to them. Always respect their privacy, like their names and personal information. When it comes to conducting research, also cite and give credit to the information you used to help your research. When doing peer interviews, don’t modify their responses too much because it takes away the originality of the participant. From my four findings, I have and will keep using them when researching in the future, and hopefully, I will build a faster system or format to act on my research.
